At Reculver school, safeguarding is taken extremely seriously in order to keep all of our pupils safe.

On our school leadership team we have five trained Designated Safeguarding staff members, and Mrs Stella Collins is our Safeguarding Lead. Our role is to ensure that our pupils are safe both in and outside of school. If you have any worries or concerns about a situation that your child, or any other, is facing, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Further information

Safeguarding means protecting children from harm, ensuring their well-being, and promoting their welfare. It covers a wide range of important areas including physical safety, emotional health, online safety, and protection from abuse or neglect.

Our Safeguarding Commitment

  • We follow the statutory guidance set out in Keeping Children Safe in Education 2025, ensuring that all staff are trained and vigilant in recognising and responding to any concerns.
  • Our designated safeguarding lead (DSL) and deputies are always available to support children, families, and staff with any safeguarding issues.
  • We have clear policies and procedures to identify, report, and manage safeguarding concerns swiftly and effectively.
  • We work closely with families, external agencies, and the local community to support children’s safety and well-being.
  • Online safety is embedded within our safeguarding approach, recognising the evolving risks children face in the digital world.

How You Can Help Keep Your Child Safe

  • Maintain open and honest communication with your child about their experiences and feelings.
  • Encourage your child to speak to a trusted adult if they ever feel worried or unsafe.
  • Familiarise yourself with our safeguarding policies and procedures, which are available on our school website.
  • Support your child in understanding how to stay safe online and at home.
  • Inform the school immediately if you have any concerns about your child’s safety or well-being.

Useful Safeguarding Resources for Parents

Operation Encompass

The school is also part of Operation Encompass, www.operationencompass.org a national initiative that ensures the police share information with the DSL about any domestic abuse incidents where a child has been present. This allows the DSL to provide timely support to the child by the start of the next school day.

If you ever have concerns about your child's safety or wish to discuss any safeguarding matters, please contact our designated safeguarding lead at the school. We value your partnership in ensuring every child at Reculver is safe, cared for, and supported.

Thank you for working with us to keep our school community safe.
