Welcome to Year 1!

We are very lucky this year to have some wonderful adults supporting our Year 1 children. In Crickets class we have Mrs Litchfield, Mrs Bird and Miss Tungate, and in Ladybirds class we have Mrs Jevons, Mrs Jarvis, Mrs Manning and Mrs Senft.

This year the children transfer from Early Years to Key Stage 1 .We will make this change smooth for the children, readying them for the rest of their journey throughout the school.

Reading & Homework

We ask that children bring their reading records in to school daily so that they can be sent home with a new book as soon as they are ready for one – this will keep their reading progress at a steady pace. Children will also bring home the Read Write Inc. book they are reading that week to reinforce their learning. Homework will begin in Term 1 via Emile, and later in the year a sheet for phonics, reading and writing will be sent home each Friday, and we ask it is returned by the following Wednesday.

PE

Year 1 complete 2 PE lessons a week, one on Tuesday afternoons and the other on Thursday afternoons. The children are expected to come to school wearing their house shirts, blue/black shorts and their school sweatshirt or cardigan on every PE day. Please note that in colder weather, blue/black tracksuit bottoms will be permitted, and also a change of footwear. Please ensure earrings are removed and long hair tied back on PE days.

We are very excited to be learning alongside your children this year and supporting them in such an important part of their school journey. We hope that they settle quickly and enjoy their time here in Year 1!
