Year 4
Jellyfish - Mrs Saunders
Sea Turtles - Miss Bullard
A very warm welcome from myself, (Mrs Saunders), Miss Bullard and our year 4 team.
In Jellyfish Class this year, the children will be supported by myself, Mrs Clark and Miss Finn .
In Sea Turtles, there is Miss Bullard who is supported by: Mrs Knowles, Mrs Cramphorn, Miss Castle and Mr Harnett.
We are very much looking forward to a productive and enjoyable year with your children.
Please do not hesitate to come and see us if you have any concerns at all about your child’s progress or happiness at school. Appointments can be made at the beginning or end of the school day. You can also contact us through the school office.
We have a very exciting year ahead, looking at a wide range of interesting topics. We shall be exploring Dragons, Rivers and mountains in term 1, learning about invasions in Britain from Roman times up to 1066 in terms 2 and 3 and investigating the Deep Abyss (Oceans and coasts) in term 4. In term 5, we will be looking at potions (think Alice in Wonderland) and going on a road trip (virtually) to the United States in term 6.
PE
Our PE lessons are on a Tuesday and Friday
Could all children please wear a named PE kit in on these days as it is a requirement that they participate in weekly physical education.
This comprises of: Black or blue trainers, school jumper or cardigan, blue or black jogging bottoms/ shorts and their house coloured T-Shirt.
Homework
Homework will be set online from the Emile website on a Friday. This will need to be completed by Friday of the following week. We will set two pieces which will be linked to our English and Maths. All homework will be based on the learning they've done at school but if your child has any difficulties please get in touch. We do not expect the children to spend more than 30 minutes on a piece of homework.
At the end of each term, we will set an optional project, usually arts and craft based to reflect and consolidate the term's learning. E.g build a model of a river system.
Daily Homework:
We would also like to encourage the children to practice their times tables and spellings every day. We have access to Spelling Shed and Emile to enhance and practise this knowledge. Usernames and passwords have been stuck inside their yellow reading records.
Reading
Reading is our main objective this year. We would like the children to be reading at least four times a week at home. When your child has finished their book, they will be expected to complete a quiz on our Accelerated Reader scheme at school. Please let us know how you feel your child’s reading is progressing with any comments or concerns through their Reading Record.
