Year 3
A very warm welcome to Year 3!
This year, the children in Year 3 are extremely fortunate as they will be supported by a number of fantastic adults. In Starfish Class we have Mrs Wright, Miss Pitt and Mrs Goodman; in Dolphin Class we have Mrs Kirby and Miss Harnett whilst in Sea Horses Class we have Miss Alltoft, Mrs Brewer, Miss Sharkey and Miss Walford. Here you can find details of what we will be learning about through the year, how you can support your child at home and important dates and things to remember!
Reading & Homework
We ask that children read at least 4 times a week at home to an adult for at least 15 minutes. Children have been provided with yellow reading records in order to keep note of their reading in school and at home. We will check these weekly in order to maintain our Accelerated Reader records in school. Homework will be set on a Friday via the Emile app and is due to be completed by the following Wednesday.
Trips and Enrichments
We have a number of exciting trips and enrichments planned in Year 3 to enhance and inspire the children’s classroom learning.
- Chef’s Dress Up Day – linked to Y3’s learning about food and nutrition
- Roman Museum and The Beaney Art Gallery - Canterbury
- Stone Age Workshop – Dress up and activity day
- St Mary’s Church – Christmas prayer activities with Rev. Sue
- Roman Activity Day – Dress up and activity day
- Wildwood Outreach Visit – experts from the wildlife park will bring artefacts in for the pupils to handle including bones, furs, skulls and feathers
- Sikh Visitor – to bring our R.E. learning to life
Year 3 Curriculum
Term 1:
PE
Year 3 complete their PE lessons on a Tuesday morning and at Thursday afternoon. Children are invited to wear their PE kit to school on this day. Children must wear their school house t-shirt, blue/black shorts and their school sweatshirt on this day. When the winter months arrive, blue/black tracksuit bottoms are permitted as well as a change of footwear should lessons take place on the school field. All jewellery, including earrings must also be removed on this day.
If there is a change to the weekly timetable and PE is to be completed on an alternative day this will be communicated on Class Dojo.
We are really looking forward to getting to know your children and learning alongside them this year. We hope that they will settle quickly into Year 3 and their final year at primary school. We have got an exciting year ahead of us!
