Sea Turtles (Year 3/4) Miss Ackland / Mrs Mount
A very warm welcome from Miss Ackland and Mrs Mount and all the team in Sea Turtle Class. We are very much looking forward to a productive and enjoyable year with your children. We have a busy and exciting term ahead! This year, the children will be supported by us, Mrs Shields and Miss Reynolds. Please do not hesitate to come and see us if you have any concerns at all about your child’s progress or happiness at school. Appointments can always be made at the beginning or end of the school day.
We have a very exciting year ahead, looking at a wide range of interesting topics. We begin our year with centring our learning around Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. We then travel to the centre of the earth and explore the Earth’s structure and volcanic activity. Next, we travel through time to discover life in the Stone and Iron Ages. Arriving back in 2021, we learn about food chains, habitats and predatory animals. Travelling back in time again, we learn about Ancient Rome, focusing on the Romanisation of Britain. We end the year by meeting some ‘goodies and baddies’ and explore characters in popular films and books.
“The more that you read the more things you will know. The more that you learn the more places you will do” -Dr Seus.
We love reading in Sea Turtle Class and Miss Ackland and Mrs Mount are passionate about supporting the Sea Turtles to achieve their full potential with reading. Your child will be most successful if they regularly read at home. We ask that you listen to your child read out loud at least four times a week. To let us know that you have listened to your child read, please pop a short note in their reading record. Once your child has finished their book, they will take a short quiz on the laptop through our Accelerated Reader scheme at school. To pass the quiz, they are required to get 80% (sometimes 70%). The results of these quizzes will be accessible to you through our Accelerated Reader Home Connect. Please let us know how you feel your child’s reading is progressing with any comments or concerns through their Reading Record.
