Our PE day is on a Wednesday. Please ensure your child brings in a PE kit on this day, their hair is tied back and any earrings are removed before they come to school. Please make sure they have a suitable tracksuit and trainers for outdoor P.E and that everything is named.
There is an expectation in Year 1 that children read at least 5 times a week to an adult and we endeavour to hear all children read at least once a week at school. We ask that once you have heard your child read you sign their reading diary, noting the page read up to. We also encourage wider reading than just school books. Please encourage them to read any text (book, magazine, manual etc) which interests them. We also welcome parent helpers to come and hear the children read.
The children will be set termly home learning challenges which you can complete as a family. You will need to provide your child with a book to keep their home learning in and this will need to be brought in once a term to share with the class (these will also be on the website). There will also be a weekly maths challenge set on the Mathletics website for the children to complete. We will be giving you a copy of the Year 1 common exception words that the children are expected to read and write by the end of Year 1. We will also be spending spellings home as of Term 3.
In our classroom we have our reflection area. This term we are looking at all five of the school values and particularly how God helps us to persevere when we are finding things hard. We will be adding to our reflection area throughout the year when our topic changes. Look out for pictures on our class story.
We are very lucky to have the wonderful Mrs Gardiner, who helps us with our classroom learning in the morning and does intervention groups in the afternoon. We are also very lucky to have the fantastic Mrs Nassirzadeh.
I am really looking forward to getting to know you all more and can’t wait for year ahead.
