Octopuses (Year 3/4) Miss Case

Octopus Class

Welcome to, or in Year 4’s case Welcome back to, Octopus Class! I have been very impressed with how the children have settled into the school year, lessons and routines. Long may this continue!

There are 3 adults working in Octopus Class with us:

Miss Case and Mrs Leelaratne

Welcome to Years 3 & 4 in Lower Key Stage 2

The team of Lower Key Stage 2 welcome all of our children into years 3 and 4 and hope that they settle into their new/existing classes quickly and happily.

There is another exciting year ahead of us, with many challenging and wonderful topics which we are sure the children will really enjoy.

This year we will be following Curriculum B:

Curriculum Days / Trips

Term 1 & 2

  • Trip to Kent Life (Stone Age Day)

Term 5 & 6

  • Possible trip to Canterbury Roman Museum (TBC)
  • Roman day (dressing up and themed activities)

Music

During our Music lessons this year, the children will begin learning to play the 4 hole ocarina, a fun instrument to learn to play.  Should you wish to purchase your own instrument, these are available on Amazon for approximately £10.00 (We shall be using the plastic versions).

P.E

This year, our main PE session will be on Thursday, however, there will be another session during the week which is subject to change on a week by week basis.  We would therefore ask you to ensure that your child has their P.E kit in school at all times. Please could you check that they have a t-shirt and shorts, as well as a suitable tracksuit and trainers for outdoor P.E, and we would also ask that you ensure all items are clearly named.

Reading at home

There is a continued expectation in Years 3 and 4 that children read regularly to an adult, regardless of their ability or age, and we would therefore ask that reading diaries are signed once you have heard your child read.  We also encourage wider reading at school as well as at home, in addition to school books, and encourage children to read a wide variety of texts, both fiction and non-fiction.

Homework

Children will receive weekly homework, which will be Mathematics and English based.  It will be given on a Friday and needs to be handed in by the following Wednesday.  On occasions there may be a small project, based around a topic which the children are working on in school, in order to broaden their knowledge and understanding.

Spellings will be given to the children weekly which will be learnt and practised at school.  However, we would ask that children regularly practise and learn spellings on the year 3 and 4 high frequency lists.  Copies of these lists will be sent home at the beginning of the academic year but are also available from your class teacher.

Picking up your children at the end of the day

At the end of each day, Teachers will wait with the children on the main playground beside the day nursery.

If you ever have any questions, please catch me on the playground at the end of the day, before school or leave a message with the office, and I will get back to you within 1 school day.
