The Reculver Curriculum

The curriculum at Reculver School aims to give all of the children the knowledge, skills and understanding to achieve to their full potential academically, socially and emotionally. We aim to give the children the necessary skills to prepare them for life in modern British society.

We follow an ‘Inspire’ theme-based, creative curriculum in the belief that children learn best when logical connections are made between different aspects of their work. We encourage research based learning to encourage the children to have enquiring minds, to take ownership of their own learning, fostering independence and developing resilience. The  topic areas enable our pupils to be highly inspired and immersed in challenging learning opportunities whilst providing a broad and balanced curriculum that will meet the individual development of all the children in our care. Themed days are held to enrich the experiences for the children, while visits and visitors also enhance the curriculum.

All children are taught the core subjects of English, Mathematics, Science and Information Communication Technology (I.C.T.) and wherever possible, links are made in order to integrate subjects into the themed topic along with the foundation subjects.

Religious Education is an important area of the curriculum and is taught discretely, via an enquiry based model of learning as a separate lesson.

Many pupils have the opportunity to have, Dance, Music and Physical Education lessons each week taught by specialist teachers or sporting coaches.
